The Rock IV
The Northernmost kingdom on this continent, Vanir is populated mostly by giants, monsters and wild men. There are, as with most places in this world, many people with fiendish bloodlines, and some of the stronger Jarls actually breed theses bloodlines for ferocity. More than in any of the other kingdoms, there are numerous intelligent undead that survived outside of the city during the infestation and a few Necropoli still stand in the northwestern portions of Vanir.
Most recently annexed by Talbral in a surprisingly quick war, there are churches to the three dotting the landscape, and most towns and villages have the church as their center.
There are seven major cities, each Ruling over the surrounding lands and led by a Jarl. All of the Jarls are converts of the Three and pay a significant tribute to the main churches in Talbral. Slavery is common in Vanir and Talbral, with a slavers guild based in Talbral and run by priestesses of the Temptress holding considerable power.
The Jarls vie for the favor of the Church as there is a gift of 1,000 slaves given annually to the Jarl whose fiefdom has pleased the High Priests the most. Although rarely escalating to all out war, the savage nature of Vanirmen leads to many skirmishes between competing Jarls. The Church allows this, but any Jarl who takes a feud to far is dealt with harshly and swiftly by the combined might of the Three Churches.
The only Jarl who has never been involved in feuds with her neighbors is the Lich-Queen Crassia who rules the Necropolis, Gorestead, in the far north of Vanir.
The landscape is mostly hilly moors, lush in the spring and summer Months, but cold and icy in the autumn and winter. Sheep and goats are the main form of livestock, and a hearty wheat-like grain is the main form of sustenance to its residents. These farms are run by the Jarl’s Cheiftans and worked by slaves, and most of Vanirs tribute to Talbral is paid in foodstuffs. This has recently upset a delicate alliance held between the Druid-Kings of Loxosphil and the Church where in exchange for a plentiful supply of food from the druids, Talbral agreed to maintain a peace with the people who chose to leave the city and live in the lands to the south.
Each Jarl, as well as maintaining his own lands, must upkeep a ready army that is constantly training and prepared to journey on campaign. Most of the soldiers in Vanir are followers of the Reaper and are very disciplined. Every member of this kingdom is required to have the skills necessary to defend themselves, and most Vanirmen and women serve at least two years in their Jarl’s Army though only a small percentage make it their career.
Talbral is a center of trade, as it has always been and it’s main export is in divine magic items. Being the only source of such vital items as healing potions Preists of the dark master work very hard to produce quantities, the Temptress’ followers work to insure that there is no competition, and the Reapers warriors insure that the product reach their intended destinations intact. They distribute these items to the North and south mainly, and many of the southern port cities of Loxosphil are run by merchant guilds who made their fortune selling healing items to Vancalla and Al-Quaz.
